ESL volunteer teacher

Role Summary 
To teach English to adult internationals who are here in our area so they can function more fully in the US and to intentionally share the love of Jesus with ESL students, and in doing so be a part of riding cultures, building friendships, and transforming live. 


Qualifications 
1. A sense of mission or calling from God to serve in this ministry 

2. Ability to speak, read, and write English

3. Completion of a basic ESL workshop (can begin teaching with an overview of teaching ESL if one has teaching experience and attend a full training at a later time)

4. Commitment to teach for one school year. (Classes run concurrent with the school year)


Responsibilities 
1. Prepare for and teach an ESL class once a week when public school is in session on Thursday evenings 6-8pm. 

2. Arrange for someone else to teach my class when I can't be there (coordinate with director)

3. Demonstrate and model the love of Jesus in every contact with my ESL students. 

4. Keep weekly class attendance 

5. Pray regularly for and with my ESL students 

6. Build friendship with and intentionally share the Gospel with my ESL students 

7. Contact my students by phone, email, card, or personal visit when they are absent more than 2 weeks in a row 

8. Attend regular teacher/volunteer meetings (typically at the beginning and end of each semester)

9. Attend additional teacher trainings events when possible
